When I close my eyes, I dream of peace – a piece for mixed choir in many languages. My peace project.
The title and text of this piece is only one sentence long. I found it in a book, said by an unidentified 11-year-old Croatian boy during the Balkan Wars.
The sentence is sung here in a dozen different languages from different cultures and regions of the world: English, Russian, Mandarin, Swahili, Albanian, Croatian, Finnish, Swedish. Many of the melodies are built on scales from the regions where the languages are spoken.
The piece will be published by Gehrmans in April.
San Francisco & New York
The Kronos Quartet and Ritva Koistinen will perform All Those Strings! on February 5 in San Franciso for the Kronos Festival 2016, and on April 2 at Carnegie Hall in New York.
