As a child, I sang a lot in the choir at Nybro Church. I loved it. Now that I am an adult, some of those hymn texts float up from time to time in my head and ask for new melodies. Rays of Light combines two poems of enormous simplicity, depth, and beauty. Their independent melodies interweave in two-part harmony in the folk style. It is a piece about light and hope.
Gently o’er the earth the sky
Sends its rays of light to cry
Shining close to God on high
Sun eternal our reply …
The sun ascends all robed in light
To paint the heavens gold …
