Karin Rehnqvist has been awarded Musikförläggarna the Swedish Music Publishers Association Prize 2025 for her composition Take the Milky Way, for mixed choir and baroque orchestra
The award ceremony took place in Stockholm on 7 November, 2025.
Prize justifcation
– In Take the Milky Way we move away from the earth into desolate darkness where we join forces in a song of hope. Cosmic clusters, elements of folk music and timeless sonorities create their own musical galaxy.
The lyrics of the 12-minute piece was written by Kerstin Perski and is divided into the movements: Invisible threads – Rush / Black hole interlude – Reach out your hand– And the journey continues
Helsinki Chamber Choir and the Finnish Baroque Orchestra, conducted by Nils Schweckendiek performed the world premiere at Helsinki Music Centre › in April 2025.
Musikförläggarna is a non-profit trade organization representing 72 music publishers working in the territory of Scandinavia including Greenland and the Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania). Musikförläggarna was founded in 1928 and is one of the founders of the Swedish collecting society STIM.
