{"id":2540,"date":"2022-10-27T15:22:30","date_gmt":"2022-10-27T14:22:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/karin-rehnqvist.se\/eng\/?p=2540"},"modified":"2022-10-27T15:22:32","modified_gmt":"2022-10-27T14:22:32","slug":"karin-rehnqvist-receives-2022-taube-award-from-vi-magazine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/karin-rehnqvist.se\/eng\/karin-rehnqvist-receives-2022-taube-award-from-vi-magazine\/","title":{"rendered":"Karin Rehnqvist receives 2022 Taube Award from Vi magazine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Composer Karin Rehnqvist is the recipient of the <em>2022 Taube Award<\/em>, an award given yearly by <strong>Vi magazine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The award citation reads:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn constant dialogue with the times, and frequently in interplay with words, her compositions create something bigger than text and music: an urgent here and now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The award is given for \u201csingable poetry, or musical settings of poems,\u201d as stipulated by <strong>Evert Taube<\/strong>, himself a frequent contributor to Vi magazine in the 1950s and 60s. The prize amount is 50,000 Swedish kronor (about 5,000 USD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a><\/a><a><\/a><a><\/a>As a composer, Karin Rehnqvist has developed a unique sound that brings together modern art music with age-old folk traditions, in particular kulning, a form of herding call. Her best-known works include&nbsp;<em>Hymn<\/em>, commissioned for the wedding of Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Daniel Westling;&nbsp;<em>Var inte r\u00e4dd f\u00f6r m\u00f6rkret<\/em>&nbsp;(<em>Do Not Fear the Darkness<\/em>), a choral work; and&nbsp;<em>Silent Earth<\/em>, an oratorio about the climate crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her new opera&nbsp;<em>Drifted (Strandad)<\/em>, with libretto by <strong>Kerstin Perski<\/strong>, will have its world premiere at the <strong>Royal Opera in Stockholm<\/strong> on November 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Unexpected<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Of receiving an award in Taube\u2019s name, Rehnqvist said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 It made me extremely happy. It was unexpected to get an award from a different quarter than the usual ones for honoring composers. I\u2019ve sung lots and lots of Taube, especially in choirs. I grew up with it, and singing Taube at home with friends is the best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><a><\/a>Evert Taube (1890\u20131976) was a Swedish writer, composer, troubadour, lutenist, screenwriter and artist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His collected literary output ranks him as one of Sweden\u2019s national bards. His rich body of work includes poetry and prose as well as drawings, watercolors, and oils. He is best-known, however, as the writer of more than 200 songs.
