Karin Rehnqvist composed this piece for soloists and choir \u2013 Songs From The North \u2013 for the chamber chorus Sacred and Profane in Berkeley, USA (started in 1977).<\/p>\n

The lyrics are Inuit poems, and are sung both in English and Swedish:<\/p>\n

Do not wait for the dawn \u2013 V\u00e4nta aldrig p\u00e5 gryningen<\/em>
\nBut when I heard of people murdered, fleeing
\nWe understand so little of the majesty around us
\nThe day rises \u2013 Dagen reser sig<\/em><\/p>\n

Karin says: Without words. In unison. This piece starts so. A slowly spun melody develops into harmony. Gradually the words become:
\n<\/span>The time is now. If you yearn, do not wait for the dawn.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n
